لم يخرج رئيس الاتحاد الدولى لكرة القدم "فيفا" جيان انفانتينو بأى جديد قاطع حول التوقعات الدائرة بإحداث تغييرات جوهرية بخصوص بطولة كأس العالم قطر 2022، والتى دار أبرزها حول إمكانية مشاركة دولا أخرى مع قطر فى استضافة المحفل الكروي العالمي، أو زيادة عدد المنتخبات المشاركة فى البطولة. وأكد جيان إنفانتينو رئيس الاتحاد الدولى لكرة القدم أنه يمكن إحداث زيادة في عدد المنتخبات المشاركة في نهائيات كأس العالم 2022 التى تستضيفها قطر. قال إنفانتينو خلال مؤتمرا صحفيا اليوم "سنعمل مع قطر على زيادة عدد المنتخبات من 32 منتخبا إلى 48 في البطولة المقبلة، وإذا حدث هذا الأمر سيكون رائعا، وإن لم يحدث فسيكون رائعا أيضا ولا مشكلة". ثم تابع قائلا: "لن يتقرر الأمر قبل شهر يونيو المقبل، مع احتمالية لدخول دول أخرى لاستضافة البطولة رفقة قطر".
